LONDON, 1st May 2007 - Canonical and Dell are pleased to announce a partnership to offer Ubuntu 7.04 on select desktop and notebook products. This is a tremendous step forward for Ubuntu and the Linux community.
Not so long ago, Dell launched a site to gather suggestions called IdeaStorm. This site was bombarded with requests to include Linux and OpenOffice on Dell computers. Dell, seeing the increasing market for Linux and Open Source has succumb to these suggestions and will now offer Ubuntu Feisty Fawn (7.04) on select consumer desktop and notebook computers.
Dell also recently brought back Windows XP as an option for new computers because of consumer preference on XP rather than the new Vista. And to complete the user options, Dell has now finally offered Linux for home and business computers.
To supplement the Linux experience, Dell also launched a Linux community board as another way to help consumers to get help they need to augment things Dell been doing like supporting Linux mailing lists.
Here is a video of Mark Shuttleworth talking about why he started Ubuntu and his opinions about the recent tie up with Dell.
